Travelling in Morocco with family: which car should you choose?

Suitcases, stroller, child seats, long roads: with a family, the choice of car changes everything. Here is how to find the right model and plan a stress-free trip with the children.

In short : for a family, the boot matters as much as the number of seats: for 4, a Clio 5 or an SUV is enough; for 6 or 7, the Dacia Jogger (from MAD 451/day) or the automatic KGM Rexton. Remember child seats, booked with the car.

Morocco is a very welcoming destination for families: hotels with pools, beaches, animals, nature, and a culture that naturally makes room for children. A rental car is often the most practical way to get around with them.

1Choosing according to family size

A Dacia Jogger 7-seater is our model most requested by large families: three rows of seats, storage everywhere and reasonable fuel consumption. See the whole fleet on Our cars.

2Boot space, the number one criterion

Allow one large suitcase per adult and a small one per child, plus the stroller. A city car will quickly be full. If you use all 7 seats of the Jogger, the boot shrinks: bring soft bags rather than hard suitcases.

3Child seats and safety

  • Seat belts are compulsory in every seat, front and rear.
  • Put young children in the back, in a seat suited to their age and weight.
  • Request your baby seats or boosters when booking so they are ready when you arrive.
  • Activate the child locks on the rear doors.

4Child-friendly itineraries

  • Agadir and Taghazout: beaches, Crocoparc zoo, short drives.
  • Oualidia: a calm lagoon, perfect for little ones.
  • Ifrane and Azrou: cool air, cedar forests and Barbary macaques.
  • Marrakech: a stay in the Palmeraie with a pool, horse-drawn carriage rides (see our neighbourhood guide).
✓
The 2-hour ruleWith children, plan a break every two hours. Moroccan motorway service areas have fuel stations, cafés and toilets.

5Practical tips

  • Keep water and snacks in the car, especially in summer.
  • Leave early in the morning to avoid the heat and the traffic.
  • Choose an automatic if you drive a lot in town.
