The 10 most beautiful beaches in Morocco to discover by car

From the white sand of Dakhla to the coves of the Mediterranean, Morocco has more than 3,500 km of coastline. Here is our pick of the most beautiful beaches, with driving times from our agencies and tips for a smooth trip.

Morocco has two coastlines: The Atlantic, with its long beaches and famous waves, and the Mediterranean, calmer and warmer in summer. With a rental car, you can visit several beaches in the same week, at your own pace, without depending on bus timetables.

Our selection was designed for travellers starting from Casablanca, Agadir or Tangier, three cities where MobilityLine delivers your vehicle at the airport.

1The most beautiful northern Atlantic beaches

1. Oualidia, the sheltered lagoon

About 2h30 south of Casablanca, Oualidia is known for its calm lagoon, ideal for families and for children to swim. People also come for the oysters and seafood served by the water.

2. Asilah, the white town

South of Tangier, Asilah combines a whitewashed medina, murals and beautiful beaches such as Paradise Beach (Rmilat), reached by a track at the end of the road. Allow about 45 minutes from Tangier airport.

3. Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki

Essaouira is Morocco's wind capital: kitesurfing, windsurfing and a long walk along the beach. 25 km to the south, Sidi Kaouki has a wilder feel, popular with surfers.

2The most beautiful southern Atlantic beaches

4. Taghazout, the surf spot

20 minutes north of Agadir, Taghazout is one of the best-known surf destinations in Africa. The beaches of Imourane and Anza are perfect for beginners.

5. Agadir's main beach

A bay of almost 10 km of fine sand, a lively seafront and exceptional sunshine for much of the year. It is the most convenient beach if you land at Al Massira Airport.

6. Legzira, the rock arches

Between Mirleft and Sidi Ifni, Legzira beach is famous for its natural red sandstone arches. One of them collapsed in 2016, but the site remains spectacular at sunset.

7. Dakhla, the desert lagoon

Further away, Dakhla offers an immense lagoon where the desert meets the ocean. It is a paradise for kitesurfing. It is usually reached by plane.

3The most beautiful Mediterranean beaches

8. Cabo Negro and M'diq

Near Tetouan, these seaside resorts are very popular with Moroccan families in summer. The water is warmer and calmer than on the Atlantic.

9. Quemado beach, Al Hoceima

A turquoise cove framed by hills, one of the most beautiful on the Rif coast. The surroundings (Cala Bonita, Sfiha) are also worth the detour.

10. Saïdia, the blue pearl

In the far east, Saïdia offers a fine sandy beach of around 14 km. A popular resort in July and August, it stays peaceful the rest of the year.

Our adviceFor beaches reached by a track (Paradise Beach, some southern coves), choose an SUV such as the Hyundai Tucson or the MG ZS Hybrid for more ground clearance.

5Tips for a successful beach road trip

  • Summer: July and August are very busy on the Mediterranean. Book your car at least a week in advance.
  • Parking: at popular beaches, parking attendants usually ask for a few dirhams. Keep some change.
  • Sand: never drive onto sand with a rental car, even an SUV.
  • Air conditioning: essential from June to September, it is included across our whole fleet.
