Hybrid cars have taken off in Morocco in just a few years, driven by rising fuel prices and the arrival of many Chinese and Japanese models. For a traveller, renting a hybrid mainly means paying less for fuel and driving more calmly in Casablanca or Marrakech traffic.
1How does a hybrid car work?
A hybrid combines a petrol engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that recharges itself during braking and deceleration. No plug is needed: you fill up just like a conventional car. In town, at low speed, the car often runs in electric mode, which greatly reduces consumption.
25 reasons to rent a hybrid in Morocco
1. Less fuel in town
Hybrids make the difference in traffic jams and frequent stops — exactly the conditions in Casablanca, Rabat or Marrakech.
2. An automatic gearbox
All our hybrids are automatic: real comfort at roundabouts and in traffic jams.
3. Quiet and comfortable
Silent start, no jolts: ideal for long motorway journeys between Casablanca and Marrakech.
4. Long range
Fewer fill-ups on a road trip, which matters in the south where stations are further apart.
5. Recent models
The hybrids in our fleet are recent, well-equipped models (reversing camera, screen, driver aids depending on the model).
3Example: how much can you save over 1,000 km?
Purely illustrative example, with petrol at 15.60 MAD a litre:
| Consumption assumption | Litres per 1,000 km | Estimated cost |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol car: 7 L/100 km | 70 L | ≈ 1 092 MAD |
| Hybrid car: 5 L/100 km | 50 L | ≈ 780 MAD |
That's about 300 MAD saved in this example. Real consumption depends on the model, the route, the load and your driving style.

5Hybrid or electric?
For a tourist stay, a hybrid remains the simplest choice: no charging to plan. The charging network is growing in Morocco but remains concentrated on the Tangier–Casablanca–Marrakech axis. Range-extender models such as the Deepal S07 offer a good compromise: electric driving day to day, a petrol engine for long distances.
6Frequently asked questions
Do you need to charge a rental hybrid?
No. A conventional hybrid charges itself as you drive. You simply fill up with petrol.
Does a hybrid car use less fuel on the motorway?
The saving is mainly in town. On the motorway, consumption is close to that of a modern petrol car.
How much does it cost to rent a hybrid car in Morocco?
At MobilityLine, from 425 MAD/day for the MG ZS Hybrid and 485 MAD/day for the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, depending on the period and duration.
